This year’s charity recipient is Hospice of Campbell County Memorial Hospital.  Their hospice care embraces all patients, whether they have diagnoses of cancer, heart disease, AIDS, Alzheimer’s or other life-limiting illnesses. Providing important outreach for such things as bereavement services and volunteer training for Northeast Wyoming, their philosophy is “the quality of our life is as important as the length of our life.”   We support their efforts and hope that you will join us this year on June 1st for the Annual Durham Ranch Charity Buffalo Stampede!

Game Meat: A Complex Food Safety and Animal Health Issue

When people talk about eating meat, the images that typically come to mind are beef, turkey, chicken, pork or lamb. These meats and products that contain them are widely available throughout the country and are favorites of many families. However, there is a category of meats from non-domesticated animals—game meats—that also can be found in markets and restaurants throughout the United States. Although they represent only a small portion of the U.S. market their popularity is growing.

The American bison industry is reported to be growing by 30% a year with more than 250,000 farmed bison in 1997 compared to 30,000 bison in 1972. The National Bison Association reported that there were more than 1,100 American bison farms by 1999.
